Steinmetz Bros

Scope

Background

Steinmetz Bros was the drone photography business my brother and I founded as high schoolers. We started with a Squarespace site, but needed a website that matched the quality of our work before approaching realtors. After looking, we couldn't find a template that fit our goals, so we built something fully custom from scratch to let the photography speak for itself.

Challenges

This was the first website I built from scratch. It was the first time I took lessons from the classroom and was able to implement them in real code. Working through new bugs for the first time and keeping track of page elements brought its challenges, but overcoming them gave me the validation that I could do it.

Key Findings

Audience

This website was geared to display our work as a portfolio for realtors and homeowners. To accomplish this, we designed the website around the images from the ground up.

Image-Oriented Layout

With a custom layout we were able to let our images shine while still having enough information to back them up. This meant no image cropping or text overlays that would overpower them. Each page opened with a full-screen hero image, so the work made its impression before anything else.

New Clients

Pairing our photography with a polished, purpose-built website gave us something concrete to put in front of realtors. It presented our work in a way that commanded attention and helped us land our first paid jobs. From there, it became our go-to tool for reaching new clients.
